SIM Cards for Industrial Routers

An industrial router is only as reliable as the SIM behind it. For deployments like the UR75 — multi-site, often unattended — a standard consumer SIM usually isn’t the right fit. Worth considering instead:

  • Multi-network SIMs that roam across several mobile networks automatically, so a single dead cell doesn’t take the site offline.
  • Fixed IP SIMs, which simplify direct VPN tunnels back to a router without needing a dynamic DNS workaround.
  • Data-only M2M SIMs with pooled data plans across a fleet of routers, which tend to work out considerably cheaper than consumer tariffs at scale.

Antennas

The UR75’s 5G performance is only as good as the antennas feeding it. For fixed installations, a higher-gain external 5G/4G antenna mounted clear of the cabinet — rather than relying on stub antennas screwed straight onto the unit — usually makes a meaningful difference to signal stability, particularly in steel cabinets or basement plant rooms. Where GNSS is in use, a separate GPS antenna with clear sky view is worth the extra cable run.
